Elbow – One Day Like This

elbow

"One Day Like This" is the second single from Elbow's fourth studio album The Seldom Seen Kid, released on 2 June 2008 on two 7" vinyl records and one CD single. "One Day Like This" debuted at #39 in the UK Singles Chart on 8 June 2008, marking Elbow's seventh UK Top 40 single. After 14 weeks, the single finally peaked at number 35 on 14 September 2008. Although it peaked considerably lower than its predecessor "Grounds for Divorce" (which peaked at number 19), the band's increasing popularity in the UK after winning their 2009 BRIT Award for Best British band meant that "One Day Like This" has spent more weeks in the UK Top 100 than any of Elbow's other singles, spending 35 weeks there; unlike its predecessor, which spent 11 weeks in the UK Top 100. The song peaked at number 35 again on 22 February 2009 and was still on the charts at number 95 as of 21 June 2009. On 21 May 2009, the song won the Ivor Novello award for Best Song. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 41 on its list of "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". After the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony, the single peaked at #4 in the UK – a new high for the song and for the band.
